It’s kinda sad when you think about it…he really was willing to let it all go…start something new…kill his anchor to everything he has known for so long…his master…for her…FOR THEM…the last vestige of power, the place Snoke left behind is the only security he has…and he thought he could share it with her…make her safe too…give her something worthy of having…belonging…he was asking for her trust…for her acceptance…and…

I agree @nikkinotions! In this fanfic https://archiveofourown.org/works/13024482/chapters/29789838, Silmea writes a conversation about Kylo choosing power in the throne room. “He doesn’t know anything else.”
I felt like I got hit over the head with a hammer! Of course he chose power, of COURSE! It all makes so much more sense to me now. He literally DOESN’T KNOW ANYTHING ELSE!
He’s not a Casanova, he has no friends, no one close to him at all. He hasn’t felt anything but anger and hate for everyone else in years. He doesn’t know what else to offer her, he doesn’t think he HAS anything else to offer her, but power. That’s all Snoke wanted from him. That’s why Kylo was valuable to him. So he thinks that’s all he has that’s worth something.
All he knows in that moment the fight is over is she came to him, believes in him, fought with him and protected him. No one else has ever done that. And it felt GOOD!
He doesn’t know he’s in love with her yet, but he knows he wants her to stay, to be by his side. He offers her the only thing he thinks he has of value, that could possibly have any worth to anyone else: power. Because that’s what he has been led to believe most of his life. Why would he think anything else?
This makes the “worst proposal ever” so much more heartbreaking. He is so damaged. He so obviously can’t understand what she might see in him. But unlike how he’s felt his whole life, he offers his power to her willingly and without reserve, fear or anger. And if you think about it, that alone is remarkable for Kylo.
Of course he chose power and offered her power, he doesn’t know anything else. Rey will have to show him.
Oh mein Gott, @greyforceuser you just made me breakdown and cry in the middle of 2020, it’s not like I haven’t anticipated it but to see it written and spelled out like that, it’s heartbreaking and soul crushing all over again. And so so true. 💔
